The Radio Club of America (RCA) announces its newly elected board members and officers who will serve a two-year term beginning January 1, 2021.

The new directors are Dr. James Breakall, WA3FET, Charles B. Kirmuss, W0CKB, Carl J. Mathis, Donald E. Root, Jr., K6CDO, Dr. Julio Urbina, KB3PZH, Bill Waugamann, WA3OJG, and Jane Winter. The new Vice President will be David Bart, KB9YPD, Chester “Barney” School, Jr, K3LA, will be Vice President/Counsel, Ronald J. “Ron” Jakubowski, K2RJ will be Treasurer and Margaret J. Lyons, P.E. will be Secretary.

The Radio Club of America’s 2020 Technical Symposium and 111th Awards Banquet was a Huge Success!

RCA’s first ever virtual Virtual Technical Symposium and Awards Program held on Saturday November 21, 2020 was a great success! Over 100 persons attended both events. Celebrate 100 Years of Broadcast in the U.S.

The History:

The first commercial broadcast in the U.S. took place on Nov. 2, 1920. Pittsburgh radio station KDKA broadcast the presidential election results of the Harding-Cox election , making this the first commercial broadcast.

Omni driver. How long have you been in the wireless industry? Nearly 30 years. I started as an on-air radio personality.

What are your specific interests or wireless areas of expertise? My core expertise is with high power RF and Broadcast Engineering, mission critical and disaster response emergency communications, with interested that extend across the E-Mag spectrum, EMP and HEMP protection, antennas, RF propagation & radio history.

How long have you been an RCA member? I am a new member

What caused you to join? A friend shared a link of the KDKA anniversary show, which I thought was excellent. I think it is important to support RCA, it’s overall mission & preservation of wireless history.

Where do you live and work? I work for CACI International in Arlington; telework from my home office in Simsbury, CT

Are there areas of RCA that you would be interested in learning about? Is there a specific demographic in the wireless industry that you hope to network with? My current career is with critical infrastructure, post (black sky) event resiliency and continuity; emergency message dissemination to the public, but I look forward to presentations, technical symposiums as well as meeting and learning from member across the industries and the fraternity on all aspects of wireless.
